Called “extremely persuasive” by Gramophone and praised for her “unfailing grace and charm” by BBC Music Magazine, Taiwanese-American pianist Charlotte Hu has captivated audiences worldwide with her exceptional virtuosity, expressive musicianship, and magnetic stage presence. Winner of the 12th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition and a prizewinner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, Hu has established an international career distinguished by artistic excellence, imaginative programming, and a dedication to connecting music with audiences across cultures.
As a soloist, Hu has performed to sold-out audiences at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, Taipei National Concert Hall, and Osaka's Symphony Hall. She has appeared at major festivals including the Aspen Music Festival, Ruhr-Klavier Festival, and Oregon Bach Festival. Her concerto engagements have included performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Taiwan Philharmonic, among others. Recent and upcoming highlights include her performances at the Gilmore Piano Festival, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and a concerto tour with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra.
An acclaimed recording artist, Hu's latest album, Goyescas (PENTATONE, June 2026), featuring Enrique Granados' complete piano suite, has received widespread international recognition. The recording was selected as Critics' Choice by International Piano, awarded five stars by BBC Music Magazine, and praised by Gramophone for its expressive depth and pianistic brilliance. It was also longlisted for the German Record Critics' Award (Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik). Her previous PENTATONE release, Liszt: Metamorphosis (2024), further established her reputation for bringing fresh perspectives to the Romantic repertoire. Her discography also includes an award-winning Chopin album, named Best Classical Album of the Year at Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards, as well as recordings on Naxos/CAG Records, BMOP/sound, and Centaur/Naxos. Her Rachmaninoff recording received a five-star review from the UK's Pianist magazine, which described it as “essential listening for Rachmaninoff admirers.”
A passionate advocate for imaginative programming, Hu creates recital experiences that explore the emotional and cultural dimensions of music. By juxtaposing beloved masterpieces with lesser-known treasures and works by underrepresented composers, she invites audiences to discover new perspectives on familiar repertoire. Her programming frequently explores themes of identity, transformation, and the human experience, creating connections between music, storytelling, and the broader world.

Beyond the concert stage, Hu is a dedicated educator and artistic leader. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of the PYPA Piano Festival in Philadelphia, which celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2027, and the founder of the Yun-Hsiang International Music Festival in Taipei. Through these initiatives, she has brought together distinguished artists from multiple generations and nurtured young musicians from around the world, fostering artistic exchange and building cultural bridges between East and West. She is also a frequent guest artist at universities and conservatories internationally, presenting masterclasses, lectures, and artist residencies.
At the heart of Hu's artistic journey is a story of determination, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to music. Born in Taiwan, she moved to the United States at the age of 14 to pursue her studies at The Juilliard School, embarking on a path that would lead her to the world's major concert stages. Her commitment to education and philanthropy extends beyond performance. In June 2020, she organized a livestreamed Hope Charity Concert that raised $27,000 for youth education charities and reached more than 140,000 viewers worldwide.
A Steinway Artist, Hu serves as Associate Professor of Piano at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She holds degrees from The Juilliard School, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media in Germany, where she studied with Herbert Stessin, Sergei Babayan, and Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, respectively.
