Carolina Eyck & ACME
Fantasias for Theremin and String Quartet
Music by Carolina Eyck
Performed by Carolina Eyck, theremin
and American Contemporary Music Ensemble
Carolina Eyck and “contemporary music dynamos” (NPR) ACME perform Eyck’s six minimalist pieces for string quartet and theremin which sonically investigate the interplay between nature and human imagination. Eyck’s musically daring and physically challenging compositions defy easy classi cation, while her uncanny mastery of the theremin and use of electronic e ects brings an authentically fresh sonic pallet to the forefront. At times reverent to traditional melody, harmony and tone, at others as de ant as the most eccentric Musique Concrete, both live performances and the LP bear the mark of a true virtuoso in her prime. Composed speci cally for the LP format, Eyck and ACME
recorded the work for Butterscotch Records with label head and producer Allen Farmelo. The album, Fantasias for Theremin and String Quartet, was released in October 2016.
In addition to Fantasias, Eyck also performs her own improvisations and compositions with ACME.

“With the dexterous American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) providing the harmonic and textural frame around which Eyck extemporaneously flits and glides - in single, unedited takes, impressively - the result is handsome and frequently bewitching.”
– WQXR, Q2 Music
"Eyck modernizes the theremin, merging it within classical tradition like child’s play."
– Electronic Musician
"Such soul, passion, and excellent command"
