Lisa Bielawa Releases The Lay of the Love on innova - featured on Thought Catalog
On June 30, 2015, innova Recordings released The Lay of the Love, a new album featuring music by composer-vocalist Lisa Bielawa. The centerpiece of the album is Bielawa’s 25-minute work The Lay of the Love and Death, based on the text of Rainer Maria Rilke’s epic poem, The Lay of the Love and Death of Cornet Christopher Rilke. Lisa was featured on Thought Catalog following the release. The piece, Music For Writers: Lisa Bielawa’s Emotional Economy, interviews Lisa about the album and other milestones in her career.
The New York Times called The Lay of the Love "absorbing and atmospheric." The San Francisco Chronicle noted the "wonderfully neo-Schubertian vibe" in The Lay of the Love and Death, writing that "the music boasts a distinctive blend of Romantic effusion and steely, almost austere contemporaneity." The album was also featured on WQXR's Q2 Music as Album of the Week and was a Staff Pick on Second Inversion.
