ACME makes European Debut with "Drone Mass" at Sacrum Profanum in Poland
On September 18, ACME made their European debut as they joined Danish vocal group Theatre of Voices and Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson for the European premiere of Drone Mass at the Sacrum Profanum music festival in Kraków, Poland. Jóhannsson’s Chaconne for solo violin opened the concert in its European premiere performance by ACME member Yuki Numata Resnick.
Drone Mass, written for strings, vocals, and electronics, was composed by Jóhannsson as a commission from ACME to celebrate their 10th anniversary season. The piece had its world premiere last spring with vocal group Roomful of Teeth at The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Temple of Dendur in New York City. In a review, I Care If You Listen noted the "sense of greater force," "pure, sustained beauty," and "majestic sonic balance" achieved in the performance.
