Chiara Quartet receives glowing New York Times review for Brahms By Heart at Met Museum
The Chiara String Quartet performed the first concert in its 2015-16 residency at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. "Brahms By Heart" featured String Quartets Nos. 1, 2 and 3 performed by memory and received a glowing review from The New York Times, which described the performance as "remarkable" and "fresh and vital." Now in its 16th season, the Chiara is performing much of its repertoire from memory. Violist Jonah Sirota says the practice has "freed our minds to express and share with each other the characters that the music brought to life in our imaginations." The Chiara is currently recording Bartók by Heart, a 2-CD set featuring Bartók’s six string quartets, played entirely from memory, slated for release in 2016 on Azica.
More info on the programs offered by the Chiara, including Bartók By Heart, for the 2016-17 season is available here.
