Chiara String Quartet featured in Houston Chronicle for "By Heart" performances
Ahead of the Chiara String Quartet's concert at Chamber Music Houston in December 2015, the Houston Chronicle ran this feature on the ensemble's new way of performing entire programs from memory.
The Chronicle writes, "Two years ago, the Chiara String Quartet put aside their music stands and printed music, to perform with nothing but air between their instruments and their audience."
Noting the Chiara's acknowldegement that playing by memory could be seen as a "gimmick," the Chronicle says, "One by one, the quartet is winning over critics. Earlier this fall, when the ensemble played a memorized concert at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art (the group is currently the museum's quartet in residence), The New York Times praised the concert as 'fresh and vital.'"
