The Chiara String Quartet's album Bartók By Heart, released August 2016 on Azica Records, received a stellar review in The Strad's January issue, which writes, "Whatever the advantages of print-free playing may be, these performances are superb, musically and technically."
The Chiara's 2-CD set features Bartók's six intricate string quartets performed entirely by memory - a practice the Chiara Quartet has brought to almost all of their repertoire in recent years.
Bartók By Heart also received glowing reviews in the Washington Post, Gramophone, and The Buffalo News, and was featured on WNYC's Fishko Files, WQXR, WFMT, and WBUR's list of 13 Best Classical Music Recordings Of The Year. ArtsFuse writes, "Bartók by Heart is no gimmick: there's nothing in the least contrived about it. Quite the contrary. The Chiara's is a richly nuanced, invigoratingly-played cycle."
The Chiara String Quartet has performed the complete Bartók string quartet cycle in concerts at Bargemusic, National Sawdust, and Ravinia Festival. Other recent highlights include by-heart performances at North Dakota Museum of Art, Bay Chamber Concerts, and Dallas Chamber Music Society, where the Chiara was praised for its "Brilliant, revelatory performances" by the Dallas Morning News. In spring 2017, the group will perform at the Auditorium Chamber Music Series, Hixson-Lied Concert Series at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Garmany Chamber Music Series at University of Hartford, Music at Amherst Series, Boise Chamber Music Series, Peak Performances, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art with clarinetist Todd Palmer.
Bartók By Heart is available on Amazon, Apple Music, iTunes, and Spotify.
