Mar 24, 25: Conductor Michael Christie Leads Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in Estacio World Premiere
On Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 8pm, conductor Michael Christie will lead the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in two concerts featuring Verdi’s Overture to La forza del destino, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C minor, and the world premiere of one of Canada’s most beloved composers John Estacio’s Trumpet Concerto featuring the symphony’s principal trumpet Larry Larson. A co-commission with 18 Canadian orchestras, this highly anticipated new work will later be played across the country.
Of the performance Michael Christie says, “This is going to be a thrilling concert with works of formidable energy. Since I trained as trumpet player, conducting the premiere of an exciting new trumpet concerto that will be shared by so many Canadian orchestras is a particular honor for me. The work is written so well for the trumpet and the accompaniment provided by the orchestra. I am also always happy to share Verdi’s La Forza del Destino Overture, the first work I conducted with an orchestra twenty-five years ago!"
